The Oral Fitness Score can only be changed by addressing the Oral Fitness Modifiers!
In this diagram, one can see that if the Oral Fitness Score is above 10, then:
- Check oral health by doing an exam. Then, treat the clinical finding and preclinical (positive test but no clinical findings), i.e., prophylaxis, SRP, periodontal treatment, etc., as indicated by the examination.
- Review oral hygiene and add aids as needed (interproximal brushes, pastes, probiotics, etc.)
- Check (by Health Form) for possible systemic influencers (diabetes, etc.) and refer to a physician if #1 and #2 do not change the OralFitness Score after treatment and retesting after several months.
NOTE: We are NOT diagnosing Periodontal Disease. We are making the patient aware that the Oral Fitness Score only comes down (improves) if they do treatment and follow oral hygiene instructions after a periodontal exam! Returning the score to a healthy range may take more than one prophylaxis visit and always requires retesting.
